Spring is almost upon us: the beautiful sunny days arrive and we can stay in the park longer with our 4-legged friend!
However, spring is not all “roses and flowers”, it can also hide some dangers for our animals: but with a little attention and advice we can make spring a pleasant season for them too!
So how do you prepare your furry friend for spring?
1. Consult the vet: with the change of season, it is good to have routine examinations at the vet who can also give us some tips to face the new season, which never hurt!
2. Cleaning: as we know, our furry friend should not be washed more than two, maximum three times a year and if you have not done it during the winter, spring can be a good time to take our dog for a nice grooming in so as to clean up the hair well after the cold season!
3. Fleas, ticks and processionaries: spring is also synonymous with the rebirth of nature! This means that it can bring pitfalls, even very dangerous ones, such as fleas, ticks and processionaries: for fleas and ticks it is good start using the special collar or anti-parasitic drops (ask your veterinarian for advice) while for the processionaries you have to pay close attention , because spring is the period in which you have a high probability of meeting them. The processionaries can be very dangerous for our animals, especially if they are licked, swallowed or even just smelled by our dog: their poison is very stinging, as is their hair. In case your dog comes into contact with it, rinse the area very well with soap and water and take him to the vet immediately.
4. Allergies : like us humans, even our 4-legged friends can suffer from allergies , especially at this time of year, such as pollen allergy that can trigger colds, coughs and watery eyes. If you also notice your dog may suffer from allergies, try to postpone walks in the park early in the morning and ask your veterinarian for advice.
