The cat, compared to other animals, tends to be a more shy animal in case of illness, and for this reason it is more difficult to understand when it is unwell.
In fact, the feline, by its very nature, tends to move away and hide in case of health problems. It is therefore up to us to carefully observe the behavior of our furry friend, to capture the possible alarm signals of when something is wrong.
A help to be able to grasp these alarm bells, is certainly to know your cat well: in fact, any change in behavior in his daily habits, large or small, could hide a health problem.
In these cases, in addition to behavior, evident alterations are instead noted as regards the state of the hair, teeth, eyes and ears …
Let’s see in detail what are the signs to pay more attention to:
- We need to start worrying if our cat becomes much less sociable and more irritable (beyond its ordinary character). This is definitely a sign that there is some problem.
- If the cat stops taking care of its personal hygiene and gives up the habit of licking its hair (which therefore becomes more opaque and matted), it means that it does not have the strength to do so, and therefore it is a symptom of malaise.
- When the cat sleeps more than it should (and this is also well noticeable with regard to the laziest felines) and stops practicing its usual daily activities, it is an important signal of discomfort to be able to grasp.
- If our four-legged friend loses his appetite or worse, he also begins to lose weight, this is a clear alarm that should not be underestimated.
- If in response to a cuddle or a caress, our furry friend responds strangely in an aggressive way, it is a sign of a discomfort that he is going through.
- When we notice that the cat stays too long in the litter box without doing anything, or if it goes to the toilet outside the litter box, it is a clear alarm of health problems.
- When we notice that your cat is breathing fast, wheezing or has a rapid heartbeat, these are all important warning signs.
- Another alarming sign is if we notice that the feline visibly has dilated pupils
- If he emits unusual nocturnal meows, which he did not usually do before, he wants to express his pain explicitly, and we need to intervene promptly.
- Drinking a lot more than usual is also a sign that something is not going as it should.
- When the cat has a warm, dry nose, it is usually a clear sign of a fever (because it should normally be wet and cold instead).
If you notice one or more of these symptoms, the advice is always to contact your trusted veterinarian, who will surely know how to help your cat and get it back on track in a short time, so as to make you feel more serene too!
